1. What are some actions that lead to degenerative diseases in the elderly? Are these actions preventable?
Lack of exercise. Definitely many so called big pharmaceutical drugs are the main causes of several dementia, such as STATINS, a well documented drug continuously prescribed by doctors and hospitals as a cholesterol controller. Our bodies make cholesterol in the liver, so it is not necessary. Preventable by brain stimulation eg. Talking reading listening. Dental hygiene as certain bacteria goes from the mouth to the brain causing Amolin to grow short circuiting messages within the brain.
2. How does one cope with feelings of isolation and loss of self in later years? Do you have any tips as to how they can regain a sense of control?
Gaining a sense of control depends on each individual's circumstances. Some circumstances that cause isolation include:
1. living alone, self isolation no one to communicate with.
2. not meeting or seeing new people social isolation, neither going shopping driving to see family friends even church, cinema, feeling unworthy.
3. What are your experiences with these types of patients? Please share any stories that you find most impactful.
Barbara has Vascular dementia after surviving 3 strokes over the last few years. Effected short term memory unable to recognise old friends, remember the past events. While still able to hold a delightful conversation occasionally recalling an event.
